On Wednesday (December 10), Representative Haley Stevens, a Democrat from Michigan, introduced articles of impeachment against Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Stevens, who is running for a U.S. Senate seat in Michigan, accused Kennedy of undermining public health and increasing healthcare costs. She stated, "RFK Jr. has turned his back on science and the safety of the American people," in a video posted on social media.
Stevens has been vocal about her opposition to Kennedy's policies since his appointment, citing his controversial decisions regarding vaccine schedules and healthcare funding cuts. According to The Hill, Stevens argued that Kennedy's actions have dismantled decades of medical progress and endangered public safety.
Despite the introduction of these articles, it is unlikely they will advance in the Republican-controlled House. NBC News reported that Stevens' efforts are seen as largely symbolic, as the measure lacks support from Democratic leaders and faces strong opposition from Republicans.
The Department of Health and Human Services defended Kennedy, with spokesperson Andrew Nixon stating that Kennedy remains focused on improving Americans' health and lowering costs.
