Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls, Texas, went into lockdown Friday morning (March 28) following reports of an active shooter near the southeast side of the base. Initial reports indicated a possible suspect described as a white male wearing a blue shirt and ball cap, though this has not been confirmed.

According to KTSM, the base's Security Forces responded promptly, securing Sheppard Elementary School and conducting sweeps in the area. As of 10:46 a.m., a statement from Sheppard AFB indicated that no evidence of a shooting had been found, but the base remains on lockdown as a precautionary measure.

Wichita Falls Police and Wichita County sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene, and a law enforcement command post was established at the base. Nearby schools, including Haynes Head Start and Hirschi Middle School, were placed in a Secure Hold, locking exterior doors and keeping students inside classrooms. The Wichita Falls Independent School District assured that students and staff were not in immediate danger and that classes continued as usual.

Wichita County deputies issued an "all clear" from the area by 10:55 a.m., but the lockdown persists as a precaution while sweeps continue.
