Tesla is recalling nearly 700,000 vehicles due to a problem with the tire pressure monitoring system. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced the recall, which affects certain 2024 Cybertruck, 2017-2025 Model 3, and 2020-2025 Model Y vehicles. The issue involves the tire pressure monitoring system warning light, which may not stay illuminated between drive cycles, potentially failing to alert drivers to low tire pressure. Driving with improperly inflated tires can increase the risk of accidents.
Tesla, led by CEO Elon Musk, is addressing the issue by offering a free software update to fix the problem. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed on February 15, 2025. This recall adds to a series of recalls Tesla has faced this year. The Cybertruck has experienced seven recalls in 2024 alone, with the most recent one affecting around 2,400 vehicles. Earlier this year, Tesla recalled over 1.8 million vehicles due to a hood issue and nearly 2.2 million vehicles because of small warning lights on the instrument panel.
