BIZARRE DETAILS EMERGE IN THURSDAY STANDOFF IN LIMA

(LIMA, OH) -- THE ALLEN COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE HAS RELEASED THE BIZARRE DETAILS THAT LED TO YESTERDAY’S STANDOFF AT 201 EAST LANE AVENUE IN LIMA. IT TURNS OUT THAT ALLEN COUNTY LAW ENFORCEMENT AND FIRE DEPARTMENTS HAD BEEN EXPERIENCING SIGNIFICANT RADIO COMMUNICATION ISSUES THIS WEEK AND UPON INVESTIGATION IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE INTERFERENCE APPEARED TO COMING FROM THE HOME ON LANE AVENUE. THUS, AUTHORITIES MADE CONTACT WITH THE RESIDENT 59-YEAR OLD DONALD G. MCNAME II, WHO REFUSED TO COOPERATE WITH FURTHER INVESTIGATION.

DURING THE TIME A SEARCH WARRANT WAS BEING AUTHORED MCNAME LEFT HIS HOME IN A VEHICLE AND WAS STOPPED BY PATROL UNITS. HE WAS TAKEN INTO CUSTODY FOR SUSPICION OF DISRUPTION OF EMERGENCY SERVICES, A FELONY OF THE FOURTH DEGREE.

THE SEARCH WARRANT WAS THEN EXECUTED BY THE SWAT TEAM. UPON ENTERING THE RESIDENCE THEY IMMEDIATELY WERE CONFRONTED BY DEVICES THAT APPEARED TO BE EXPLOSIVES.

THE ALLEN COUNTY REGIONAL BOMB SQUAD WAS THEN CALLED IN. THE BOMB SQUAD REMOVED ONE DEVICE THAT WAS DESIGNED IN A WAY CONSISTENT IN APPEARANCE WITH A PIPE BOMB. THE DEVICE WAS RENDERED SAFE AND THE REST OF THE RESIDENCE WAS CLEARED.

DURING THE SEARCH, AT LEAST ONE DEVICE WAS LOCATED THAT MAY HAVE BEEN THE SOURCE OF THE RDIO INTERFERENCE, ALONG WITH OTHER ITEMS OF EVIDENTIARY VALUE. THE INVESTIGATION IS ONGOING AND NO FURTHER INFORMATION IS AVAILABLE AT THIS TIME.
