Mattis Will Call The Shots On Troop Levels-President Trump is authorizing Defense Secretary Jim Mattis to set troop levels in Afghanistan.

A U.S. official tells Reuters that no immediate decision has been made about troop levels, which are currently at about 84-hundred. The move opens the door to sending more troops to Afghanistan. On Tuesday, Mattis told the Senate Armed Services Committee, "We are not winning in Afghanistan right now," and added, "we will correct this as soon as possible."

U.S. officials say three-to-five-thousand troops may be added. Many will train and advise Afghan soldiers. The war in that country has been ongoing since 2001.Source: CBS News
