(Lima, OH)--Two incidents of gunfire from early Saturday morning remain under investigation on the Lima Police Department. The incident occurred with five minutes of each other. First, at about 3:15 a.m. officers responded to 509 Elmwood in reference to shots fired. The residence was found to have been struck by gun fire however no one was injured. Five minutes later, LPD responded to 574 Hazel in reference to a shooting. 24 year old Deontray Forrest was transported to St. Rita’s for treatment of injuries from a gunshot. (Lima, OH)--Meanwhile, Lima Police are still looking for answers in the case of the murder of 21-year old Kevonta L. Cowan last Tuesday. At 10:50 Tuesday night he was found at 225 S. Kenilworth Avenue with a gunshot wound and died later at St. Rita's. Anyone with information about the shooting should call LPD 419-227-4444. Cowan’s was the seventh homicide in Lima/Allen County in 2019.

CHILDRENS NETWORK

GOVERNOR MIKE DEWINE HAS SIGNED A BILL THAT INCLUDES A COMPREHENSIVE LEARNING NETWORK TO SUPPORT YOUNG CHILDREN.

HOUSE BILL 12 ESTABLISHES THE OHIO CHILDREN'S BEHAVIORAL HEALTH PREVENTION NETWORK STAKEHOLDER GROUP. THE GROUP WILL COORDINATE A PLAN AND COMPREHENSIVE LEARNING NETWORK DESIGNED TO HELP SUPPORT YOUNG CHILDREN IN SOCIAL, EMOTIONAL AND BEHAVIORAL DEVELOPMENT. THE GROUP WILL CONDUCT RESEARCH FOR 18 MONTHS BEFORE DELIVERING A COMPREHENSIVE REPORT TO LEGISLATORS. ACCORDING TO STATISTICS, ONE IN FIVE CHILDREN IN OHIO HAS MENTAL HEALTH OR BEHAVIORAL ISSUES.

IT'S BEEN A TOUGH YEAR ON BUCKEYE ROADS.

GOVERNOR MIKE DEWINE SAYS THE NUMBER OF MOTOR VEHICLE FATALITIES HAVE INCREASED OVER LAST YEAR. CURRENTLY IN 2019, A TOTAL OF 1,119 DRIVERS HAVE BEEN KILLED ON BUCKEYE HIGHWAYS, COMPARED TO A TOTAL OF 1,068 IN 2018 - THAT'S 51 MORE. OVERALL, FATALITIES HAVE INCREASED IN FIVE OF THE PAST SIX YEARS. ONE OF THE BIGGEST FACTORS, ACCORDING TO THE GOVERNOR: DISTRACTED DRIVING. OVER 91,000 CRASHES HAVE INVOLVED DISTRACTED DRIVERS SINCE 2013. THE LARGEST NUMBER OF THOSE FROM DRIVERS AGED 16-20.

(Lima, OH)--The Lima Temple Christian High School Athletic Department issued the following statement yesterday:

“Bruce Bowman has stepped down as head coach of Varsity Boys Basketball due to a health concern. He will be having heart surgery coming up soon to repair a condition he has had for some time and the doctors advised him that the condition has worsened and that the stress of coaching a game could cause major complications. The good news is the surgery he is having has a VERY high success rate and it should repair the problem going forward. As of now this is NOT a resignation but a medical leave of absence. Our Assistant Coach Brad Callahan will be the interim head coach during this time and we appreciate your thoughts and prayers for Bruce and his family as they go through this time. “

>>Browns Eliminated After Loss To Ravens In Cleveland

(Cleveland, OH) -- What started as a season of hope in Cleveland ended on Sunday with a 31-15 loss to the Baltimore Ravens. The defeat officially eliminated the Browns from the playoffs for the 17th straight season while also clinching home-field advantage throughout the postseason for Baltimore. Baker Mayfield passed for 192-yards and two touchdowns while the Ravens defense stifled the Cleveland ground attack holding Nick Chubb to only 45-yards on the ground. Cleveland will close out the regular season next Sunday when they travel to Cincinnati for the Battle of Ohio part two.

(Miami, FL) -- The Cincinnati Bengals scored 23-points in the fourth quarter to force overtime before falling to the Miami Dolphins 38-35. Andy Dalton passed to Tyler Eifert as time expired and then completed a two-point conversion to tie the game before Miami kicked the game-winning field goal on the last play of overtime. Dalton threw for 392-yards and four touchdowns in a loss that clinched the number one draft pick for the Bengals next April. The Bengals will now head back home to prepare for the Cleveland Browns next weekend.

(Uniondale, NY) -- The Columbus Blue Jackets will take their four-game winning streak to Queens tonight to face off against the New York Islanders. Columbus has secured at least one point in their last seven games to capture 12 of 14 available in that span. The Islanders will come into the game off a shootout loss on Saturday to Anaheim but still hold the second-best record in the Metro Division. Puck drop tonight from Nassau Coliseum is set for 7 p.m.
