Abandoned Wells Bill Passes

Lima, OH (WIMA) - State Representative Bob Cupp of Lima voted to approve House Bill 225, which provides a more prompt method for identifying and prioritizing orphaned oil or gas wells in Ohio.

Currently there are 700 identified orphan wells in the State of Ohio, including 13 in Allen County.

Those numbers account for only the wells that the ODNR is aware of.

It is estimated that approximately 250,000 wells were drilled in Ohio since the 1880’s.

House Bill 225 was passed unanimously by the House, and it now awaits consideration from the Senate.
