President Trump Delivers Message To Children After Florida Shooting

President Trump has a message for America's children after the horrific school shooting at a south Florida high school that left 17 people dead. In his first public appearance since a 19-year-old former student opened fire on his classmates, Trump said many kids might be feeling lost, alone, confused or scared. He told them, "you are never alone, and you never will be." Trump suggested kids should strive to "answer hate with love" and "answer cruelty with kindness."

The president praised the courage of first responders who "responded so bravely in the face of danger."

To law enforcement, first responders, and teachers who responded so bravely in the face of danger, we thank you for your courage.

He promised that the federal government would continue to work with state and local leaders to "secure our schools and tackle the complicated issue of mental health.

We are committed to working with state and local leaders to help secure our schools and tackle the difficult issue of mental health

Earlier in the day, Trump tweeted that there were "many signs that the Florida shooter was mentally disturbed" and that "Neighbors and classmates knew he was a big problem."

So many signs that the Florida shooter was mentally disturbed, even expelled from school for bad and erratic behavior. Neighbors and classmates knew he was a big problem. Must always report such instances to authorities, again and again!

Trump said he plans to visit the school and will meet with families and local officials. He will be in Florida this weekend, but the exact plans for his visit have not been finalized.
