(Dallas, TX)  --  A new Alzheimer's disease vaccine is showing results in animal testing.

Researchers at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center say the vaccine has been able to prevent the accumulation of substances in the brain linked to dementia.

It's been tested in mice and now scientists hope to move on to human trials.

If it works, it could reduce the number of cases of the fatal disease by half.

Previous efforts at vaccines have resulted in harmful side effects, absent in the current trials.
