Ohio Senate Awards Funds to Fight Opioids

Lima, OH (WIMA) - State Senator Matt Huffman of Lima announced this week that statewide grants were awarded to local response teams to help overdose survivors start on the path to recovery.

The new grant program is administered by the Ohio Attorney General's office and will provide local assistance for expanding Drug Abuse Response Teams and Quick Response Teams.

Grant funding was added by the Ohio Senate as part of the state's overall effort to tackle the opioid crisis by strengthening law enforcement and prevention programs.

Ohio spends nearly 1 billion dollars each year to fight drug abuse and addiction, and the main budget allocates an extra 180 million dollars in targeted prevention, recovery, and enforcement efforts.
