Another Memorial Day weekend has come and gone.
I got to thinking, do people really know what Memorial Day actually is?
Many say its the unofficial kickoff to summer. It may be, but it goes much deeper than that.
A lot say its to honor our veterans and those serving in the military.
That is somewhat true, but we also have Veterans Day and Armed Forces Day.
Memorial Day is to honor those that served and died, especially those who died in battle.
I went to a nice Memorial Service at a cemetery, put on by a local American Legion.
There was a high school band, a Legion Band, speeches, re-enactments, cannon fire, a 21-gun salute, and a fly-over of some old military planes.
I visited the grave of my Grandfather, who served in WWII and fought in the Pacific Theatre.
He died when I was 5, but I still remember being around him like it was yesterday.
I hope you took time to do something on Memorial Day to find its real meaning.
