April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month

Lima, OH (WIMA) - This month is National Distracted Driving Awareness Month, and the Ohio State Highway Patrol is reminding drivers to stay focused on the roadways while driving.

Last year, almost 14 thousand crashes in Ohio had a reported distraction, and 26 of those crashes were fatal.

Sending texts takes a driver's eyes off the road for more than 4 and a half seconds, which is the equivalent of a football field when driving 55 mph.

Ohio law says anyone under the age of 18 is not allowed to use a phone in any way while driving.
