Ticketmaster to Pay $10M Fine in Hacking Suit

Ticketmaster has agreed to pay a $10 million fine in its long-running hacking case.

The deal, reached Wednesday in a New York City courtroom, comes after the ticket agency already shelled out $110 million in a 2018 civil suit filed by rival ticket seller Songkick.

In both cases, Ticketmaster was accused of hacking into Songkick's computer system to "unlawfully collect potential business intelligence," says Acting U.S. Attorney Seth DuCharme.

For its part, Ticketmaster has claimed the hacking was carried out by two employees who were acting on their own volition... And they were fired in 2017, company officials say.

"Their actions violated our corporate policies and were inconsistent with our values," reads a statement released Wednesday by Ticketmaster. "We are pleased that this matter is now resolved."
