Householder, Borges Convicted in Bribery, Racketeering Trial

CINCINNATI, Ohio (WTVN)--Two former Ohio Republican leaders have been convicted in the largest corruption trial in Ohio's history.

Former Ohio House Speaker Larry Householder and former Ohio Republican party Chairman Matt Borges were charged with racketeering, for taking bribes from lobbyists connected to Akron-based FirstEnergy.

The company needed a bailout from the state, to keep two nuclear power plants from closing. The bribes prompted the passage of House Bill 6, which put an added fee on Ohioans utility bills.

After the verdict was read Thursday in federal court in Cincinnati, Householder indicated he will appeal the conviction.
