COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN)--The matchup is set for the general election for US Senate in Ohio this November.

For the Republican nomination, author JD Vance rode the momentum from an endorsement from former President Donald Trump to victory in a crowded field. Vance was a harsh critic of Trump, prior to the presidential election in 2016.

For the democrats, Congressman Tim Ryan emerged from a crowd of three candidates to take the nomination. He currently represents his district in northeast Ohio in the U-S House.

The race was set up by the announcement from current Senator Rob Portman, that he would not seek another term. Portman has served in the Senate since his election in 2010, and re-election in 2016.
