>>DEWINE MAKES POLICE RECOMMENDATIONS

(COLUMBUS, OH) -- GOVERNOR MIKE DEWINE YESTERDAY ANNOUNCED A NUMBER OF REFORMS THAT HE INTENDS TO ENACT OR RECOMMEND TO THE OHIO LEGISLATURE TO BE PUT INTO OHIO'S LEGAL CODE.

HE IS PROPOSING THAT ALL POLICE OFFICER UNDERGO A PSYCHOLOGICAL TEST ONCE THEY COMPLETE THE ACADEMY. SECOND, SIX HOURS OF ADDITIONAL DE-ESCALATION TRAINING IS MANDATED, INCLUDING IMPLICIT BIAS TRAINING.

THE GOVERNOR ALSO PUT AN END TO POLICE OFFICERS INVESTIGATING THEIR OWN WHEN DEADLY FORCE IS USED. HE SAID THEY WAY POLICE INVESTIGATE THEIR OWN IS OUTDATED. SO, HE'S CALLING ON INDEPENDENT INVESTIGATORS FROM THE ATTORNEY GENERAL'S OFFICE TO LOOK AT USE OF FORCE CASES. HE SAYS EVERY OFFICER SHOULD HAVE A BODY CAMERA, AND THAT POLICE SHOULD BE TREATED LIKE ANY OTHER LICENSE HOLDER IN THE STATE: IF POLICE ARE CAUGHT DOING SOMETHING CRIMINAL THEIR LICENSES SHOULD BE REVOKED OR SUSPENDED. LASTLY, THE GOVERNOR WANTS A STATEWIDE BAN ON CHOKE HOLDS UNLESS THE OFFICER IS JUSTIFIED USING DEADLY FORCE.

(LIMA, OH) -- THE CITY OF LIMA IS LOOKING TO FILL SEVERAL SEATS ON A NUMBER OF THEIR BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS.

(UNDATED) -- A LIMA MAN HAS BEEN SENTENCED TO ALMOST 42 YEARS IN PRISON, IN CONNECTION WITH CHILD SEX TRAFFICKING.

HOMETOWN STATIONS REPORTS THAT 28-YEAR OLD NICHOLAS SALVADORE COCHRAN WAS SENTENCED TO THE PRISON TIME EARLIER THIS WEEK.

IN JANUARY, COCHRAN PLED GUILTY TO CHARGES STEMMING FROM ACTIONS IN JULY OF 2019. A 14-YEAR OLD GIRL WAS REPORTED MISSING FROM CELINA AND WAS SUBSEQUENTLY DISCOVERED TO BE A VICTIM OF TRAFFICKING BY COCHRAN.

(CELINA, OH) -- A MERCER COUNTY MAN DIED TUESDAY NIGHT IN A MOTORCYCLE ACCIDENT.

ACCORDING TO THE MERCER COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE, JUST BEFORE 11 P.M. TUESDAY, 50-YEAR OLD ERIC P. FRANK, WAS WESTBOUND ON STATE ROUTE 219 WHEN HE LOST CONTROL JUST WEST OF STATE ROUTE 703.

FRANK WAS EJECTED FROM THE BIKE. HE WAS NOT WEARING A HELMET.
