>>COUNTY FAIRS CONTINUE IN LIMBO

(WAPAKONETA, OH) -- AS COUNTY FAIRS CONTINUE TO BE IN LIMBO IN LIEU OF FURTHER GUIDANCE FROM THE STATE OF OHIO, THE AUGLAIZE COUNTY FAIR ANNOUNCED YESTERDAY THAT IT WILL, AT LEAST, CONDUCT A JUNIOR FAIR.

A DECISION HAS NOT BEEN MADE YET IN REGARDS TO A FULL FAIR.

MEANWHILE, THE PUTNAM COUNTY FAIR IS SET TO BEGIN IN LESS THAN TWO WEEKS. THEY WILL HAVE A JUNIOR FAIR BUT THEY’RE HOPING TO HAVE A MORE EXPANSIVE FAIR, IF STATE REGULATIONS REGARDING COVID-19 ALLOW. HOWEVER, PUTNAM COUNTY WILL NOT HAVE THE LUXURY OF TIME AS THEY DO IN AUGLAIZE COUNTY AND WILL HAVE TO MAKE A FINAL DECISION ON FRIDAY.

THE FAIR BOARD HAS ANNOUNCED THAT THE PUTNAM COUNTY FAIR WILL INCLUDE HARNESS RACING ALTHOUGH THE GRANDSTAND WILL BE CLOSED TO SPECTATORS AND THERE WILL NOT BE BETTING ALLOWED. ALSO, THEY PLAN TO RESCHEDULE THEIR DEMO DERBY AND TRUCK AND TRACTOR PULLS.

MINNEAPOLIS CITY COUNCIL HAS VOTED TO DEFUND THEIR POLICE DEPARTMENT. COULD IT HAPPEN IN OHIO CITIES?

GOVERNOR MIKE DEWINE TALKED ABOUT SEVERAL DIFFERENT AREAS OF LAW ENFORCEMENT. HE WANTS TO TAKE A LOOK AT IT LIKE THE USE OF CHEMICAL SPRAYS AND HOW TO DISPERSE A CROWD THAT WON'T LISTEN. THE GOVERNOR WAS PERFECTLY CLEAR HE WILL NOT LISTEN TO EFFORTS TO DEFUND POLICE DEPARTMENTS HERE, CALLING THE IDEA “ABSURD”. THE GOVERNOR DID SAY THAT HE SAYS POLICE REFORMS ARE NECESSARY.

>>LOW NUMBERS FOR COVID-19 IN OHIO

(COLUMBUS, OH) -- YESTERDAY WAS A BIG MILESTONE WHEN IT COMES TO TRACKING THE NUMBER OF COVID-19 CASES.

IT NOT ONLY MARKS THREE MONTHS SINCE OUR FIRST REPORTED CASE IN OUR STATE, IT IS ALSO THE LOWEST NUMBER OF NEW CASES THAT WE'VE HAD IN TWO MONTHS. THE NUMBER OF NEW CASES : 278. APRIL 14TH WAS THE LAST TIME WE HAD NUMBERS THAT LOW AND WE COULD NOT TEST NEARLY AS MANY PEOPLE AT THAT TIME AND PRISONS HADN'T STARTED REPORTING CASES YET. I'M SCOTT LIGHT.

>>COVID UNEMPLOYMENT

(COLUMBUS, OH) -- IT HAS BEEN MONTHS SINCE COVID-19 CLOSED MANY BUSINESSES AND LEFT HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE UNEMPLOYED IN OHIO AND PEOPLE ARE STILL STRUGGLING TO GET HELP.

DIRECTOR OF THE OHIO DEPARTMENT OF JOB AND FAMILY SERVICES SAYS IF YOUR CLAIM IS STILL PENDING, IT'S BECAUSE IT IS COMPLEX AND IT NEEDS EVALUATED. WE'RE TOLD THERE ARE MORE THAN 72,000 PENDING CLAIMS. DIRECTOR HALL SAYS THEY'RE STARTING TO SEE AN UPTICK IN APPEALS AND ARE PREPARING STAFF TO BE ABLE TO HANDLE THOSE.

>>NASCAR TO ALLOW “BUTTS IN SEATS”

(DAYTONA BEACH, FL) -- NASCAR ANNOUNCED PLANS TO ALLOW FANS BACK IN THE STANDS FOR TWO RACES THIS MONTH - THE FIRST PROFESSIONAL SPORTS EVENTS TO HAVE FANS IN THE UNITED STATES SINCE THE CORONAVIRUS PANDEMIC HALTED THE SPORTS WORLD IN MID-MARCH. FOR SUNDAY'S CUP SERIES RACE AT HOMESTEAD-MIAMI SPEEDWAY, NASCAR WILL ALLOW UP TO 1,000 FLORIDA SERVICE MEMBERS TO VIEW THE RACE FROM THE GRANDSTANDS. THE FOLLOWING WEEKEND AT TALLADEGA SUPERSPEEDWAY IN ALABAMA, 5,000 FANS WILL BE ALLOWED IN THE GRANDSTAND FOR THE JUNE 21 CUP RACE WHILE A LIMITED NUMBER OF SPOTS FOR MOTORHOMES AND CAMPERS WILL BE AVAILABLE OUTSIDE THE TRACK. THE FANS AT BOTH RACES WILL BE SCREENED BEFORE ENTERING, REQUIRED TO WEAR FACE COVERINGS AND STAY AT A DISTANCE OF AT LEAST SIX FEET APART FROM ONE ANOTHER.

>>MLB PLAYERS UNION COUNTERS OWNERS OFFER WITH SHORTENED 89-GAME SEASON

(NEW YORK, NY) -- THE MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL PLAYERS UNION IS OFFERING A NEW PROPOSAL TO OWNERS IN ANOTHER ATTEMPT TO HAVE A 2020 SEASON. ACCORDING TO REPORTS, THE UNION'S NEW PLAN SENT ON TUESDAY AFTERNOON WOULD SEE AN 89-GAME SEASON WITH FULL PRORATED SALARIES. MLB OWNERS HAD SUBMITTED A PROPOSAL ON MONDAY WITH A 76-GAME SEASON, AND 75-PERCENT PRORATED SALARIES. UNDER THE PLAYER'S PLAN, THE SEASON WOULD BEGIN JULY 10TH AND END ON OCTOBER 11TH TO AVOID OVERLAPPING WITH THE NBA FINALS.
