>>HUFFMAN BILL TO GIVE LOCAL SCHOOLS MORE DECISION POWER

(COLUMBUS, OH) -- LIMA’S STATE SENATOR, MATT HUFFMAN, HAS INTRODUCED SENATE BILL 320. HE SAYS IT WOULD LEAVE ALL DECISIONS ABOUT HOW AND WHEN STUDENTS RETURN TO SCHOOL TOTALLY UP TO THE LOCAL DISTRICTS IN THE FALL.

HUFFMAN SAYS THAT THE LOCAL SCHOOL OFFICIALS WILL BE ABLE TO MUCH BETTER ADMINISTER THE RETURN FROM THE COVID-19 SHUTDOWNS AS THEY KNOW THEIR POPULATIONS AND THE DISTRICTS MUCH BETTER THAN THE STATE’S OFFICIALS POSSIBLY COULD.

THEY HAVE HELPED LOCAL FAMILIES WHO NEED EXTRA ASSISTANCE OVER THE HOLIDAYS FOR OVER 35 YEARS BY COLLECTING AND DISTRIBUTING COMMUNITY DONATIONS OF TOYS AND FOOD.

NOW THEY WANT TO HELP OUR LOCAL BUSINESSES WHO HAVE BEEN HARD HIT BY COVID-19 CLOSURES AND THE NEW OPERATING PROCEDURES. IN ORDER TO OPERATE SAFELY, BUSINESSES ARE IN NEED OF LARGE AMOUNTS OF PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT (PPE). THEY HAVE FACED PRODUCT SHORTAGES AND SKYROCKETING PRICES FOR MUCH OF THE REQUIRED PPE.

THE CHRISTMAS CHEER PROGRAM HAS MOBILIZED FUNDING TO ADDRESS THIS SHORTFALL AND HELP OUR LOCAL BUSINESSES GET BACK ON THEIR FEET. WITH THE SUPPORT OF THE WAPAKONETA AREA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE AND MILLERS TEXTILE SERVICES, THEY ARE PROVIDING HAND SANITIZER PPE TO OUR LOCAL SMALL BUSINESSES IN NEED.

(NEW YORK, NY) -- MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL'S PLAYERS ASSOCIATION HAS REJECTED A PROPOSAL FROM THE OWNERS FOR A 76-GAME REGULAR SEASON THAT WOULD GUARANTEE 50 PERCENT OF PLAYERS' PRORATED SALARIES, ACCORDING TO THE ATHLETIC. (INDIANAPOLIS, IN) -- THE NCAA WILL CONSIDER A SIX-WEEK PLAN FOR FOOTBALL TEAMS TO PREPARE FOR THE START OF THEIR SEASONS. THE PLAN ALLOWS FOR UP 20 HOURS PER WEEK OF WEIGHT TRAINING, CONDITIONING, FILM STUDY, MEETINGS AND WALKTHROUGHS WITH COACHES TWO WEEKS BEFORE THE START OF PRESEASON PRACTICE. PLAYERS WOULD NOT BE PERMITTED TO WEAR HELMETS AND PADS DURING WALKTHROUGHS, BUT A BALL COULD BE USED FOR INSTRUCTION. NCAA RULES STATE TEAMS CAN BEGIN PRESEASON PRACTICE 29 DAYS BEFORE THE DATE OF THEIR FIRST GAME. THE PLAN HAS NOT BEEN FINALIZED BUT COULD BE APPROVED WITHIN TWO WEEKS.
