>>LMHS & ONU PARTNER FOR LOCAL MOLECULAR TESTING FOR COVID-19

(LIMA, OH) -- LIMA MEMORIAL HEALTH SYSTEM AND OHIO NORTHERN UNIVERSITY HAVE PARTNERED TO BRING PCR MOLECULAR TESTING FOR COVID-19 TO THE LIMA REGION. THIS IS THE SAME METHOD BEING USED BY THE OHIO DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH. ONU PROVIDED ESSENTIAL EQUIPMENT TO ENABLE LIMA MEMORIAL TO PROVIDE THIS CRITICAL TESTING.

PCR MOLECULAR TESTING IS THE GOLD STANDARD FOR DETECTING THE COVID-19 VIRUS. WITH AN EXPECTED SAME-DAY TURNAROUND TIME FOR RESULTS, PATIENTS WILL BENEFIT FROM SWIFT AND PROPER TREATMENT. TESTING WILL BE MADE AVAILABLE IN THE GREATER LIMA REGION FOR HOSPITALIZED PATIENTS AT ALL LOCAL HOSPITALS, HEALTHCARE WORKERS, PATIENTS IN LONG-TERM CARE FACILITIES AND FIRST RESPONDERS, AMONG OTHERS.

ST. RITA’S AND OTHER HOSPITALS IN THE AREA WILL ALSO BE USING THE TESTING.

>>ALLEN COUNTY CASES OF COVID-19

(LIMA, OH) -- ALLEN COUNTY’S THREE DAY AVERAGE OF NEW COVID-19 CASES HAS HIT ITS LOWEST POINT SINCE APRIL 13TH. YESTERDAY THERE WERE SIX NEW CASES REPORTED BY THE ALLEN COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT, BRINGING THE COUNTY’S TOTAL CASE COUNT TO 88. THE LAST THREE DAYS THERE HAVE BEEN FIFTEEN CASES REPORTED. HOSPITALIZATIONS REPORTED INCREASED BY THREE, WITH THE TOTAL NOW AT 40. THERE WERE NO DEATHS REPORTED YESTERDAY, LEAVING THAT TOTAL AT 12.

>>ELECTIVE SURGERIES

(COLUMBUS, OH) -- GOVERNOR MIKE DEWINE IS PREPARING TO EASE UP ON THE PROHIBITION OF ELECTIVE SURGERIES DURING THE CORONAVIRUS PANDEMIC.

DEWINE SAID WEDNESDAY THAT DOCTORS CAN NOW REVIEW POSTPONED PROCEDURES AND SURGERIES WITH PATIENTS IN TERMS OF THEIR CURRENT HEALTH SITUATION AND QUALITY OF LIFE. THE GOVERNOR SAYS DOCTORS AND PATIENTS CAN MAKE A JOINT DECISION ABOUT WHETHER TO PROCEED.

>>MANUFACTURED HOME FIRE

(LIMA, OH) -- THERE WAS A FIRE IN THE HUNTER’S CHASE MANUFACTURED HOME COMPLEX JUST OFF EASTOWN ROAD WEST OF LIMA OVERNIGHT.

SOCIAL MEDIA POSTS SHOWED THE HOME AT 173 SADDLEBROOK FULLY ENGULFED IN FLAMES. AUTHORITIES REPORT THAT ALL OCCUPANTS ESCAPED SAFELY AND THERE WERE NO INJURIES. A DAMAGE ESTIMATE HAS NOT YET BEEN GIVEN.

>>LEONARD RUSH PASSES AWAY

FORMER PLAYERS, FAMILY AND FRIENDS HAVE POSTED ON SOCIAL MEDIA THAT FORMER LIMA SENIOR FOOTBALL COACH LEONARD RUSH HAS PASSED AWAY.

FROM 1984-2000, RUSH’S LIMA SENIOR TEAMS MADE SIX TRIPS TO THE PLAYOFFS, WENT TO THE STATE SEMIFINALS IN 1989, WON A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP IN 1996 AND FINISHED WITH FINAL RECORD OF 98-63. RUSH IS LIMA SENIOR’S ALL-TIME WINNINGEST COACH. RUSH WAS 73 YEARS OLD.

>>TAFLINGER RETURNS TO COACH LCC GIRLS BASKETBALL

(LIMA, OH) -- LIMA CENTRAL CATHOLIC HIGH SCHOOL HAS ANNOUNCED THAT BILL TAFLINGER WILL RETURN TO HIS FORMER ROLE AS THE GIRLS VARSITY BASKETBALL HEAD COACH.

TAFLINGER, A 1983 LCC GRADUATE AND FORMER CITY PLAYER OF THE YEAR, PREVIOUSLY LED THE T-BIRD GIRLS PROGRAM FROM 1989-2012 COMPILING A RECORD OF 305-212.

HE LATER WAS THE GIRLS HEAD COACH AT ADA FROM 2015-18. TAFLINGER REPLACES RON WILLIAMS WHO RESIGNED AFTER THREE SEASONS.
