>>One Dead in Early Morning Fire in Lima

(Lima, OH)--One person was killed in an early morning fire on Lima’s south side. The Lima Fire Department says that the fire happened at 902 South Main Street, with the fire call going out at 2:46. The three-story building had several individual living units and a total of nine people evacuated the building, two of those with the assistance of the first repsonders. However, one adult resident was unable to escape and perished in the blaze. That person’s identity is being withheld for the time being. It took LFD about two hours to get the fire under control and the investigation is ongoing as there was no immediately apparent cause.

>>Triple Homicide Just Part of Flurry of Gunplay in Lima

(Lima, OH)--While The Lima Police Department continues its pursuit of 24-year old Deontry Forrest in the Tuesday morning triple homicide at Level’s Lounge, it turns out that was just part of the gunplay that day. Forrest allegedly shot dead three Lima men at Level’s just before 2:00 a.m. Tuesday. About a half hour later, the edifice at 944 Richie Avenue was struck by several bullets. Then just before 11:00 p.m. Tuesday there was yet another incident of gunfire into occupied homes at 415 and 417 Elmwood Place. All the domiciles were occupied at the time of the shootings but there were no injuries. Police say all the incidents were connected.

BAN CAUCUSES

ACCORDING TO THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH, OHIO DEMOCRATIC CHAIRMAN DAVID PEPPER AND OHIO G-O-P VICE CHAIRMAN BRYAN WILLIAMS AGREED TUESDAY THAT THE FEW REMAINING STATES USING CAUCUSES TO CHOOSE CANDIDATES NEED TO MOVE TO PRIMARY ELECTIONS, AS OHIO DOES. DURING A FORUM SPONSORED BY THE ASSOCIATED PRESS, PEPPER AND WILLIAMS SAID CAUCUSES THAT FORCE VOTERS TO DECLARE PUBLICLY FOR A CANDIDATE SUPPRESS VOTER TURNOUT. OHIO’S ELECTION CHIEF, SECRETARY OF STATE FRANK LAROSE, ALSO ARGUED EARLIER IN THE DAY THAT PRIMARIES ARE MUCH MORE SECURE THAN CAUCUSES.

POSSIBLE VIRUS

(COLUMBUS, OH)--THE OHIO DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH IS MONITORING A NEW PERSON IN THE STATE FOR THE CORONAVIRUS. CLEVELAND.COM REPORTS HEALTH OFFICIALS WOULD NOT REVEAL WHERE IN THE STATE THE CASE WAS BEING MONITORED. O-D-H DID SAY SAMPLES WERE SENT TO THE CENTERS FOR DISEASE CONTROL AND PREVENTION FOR TESTING AND RESULTS ARE EXPECTED IN THE COMING DAYS. THE COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT NEAREST THE PERSON IS WORKING WITH O-D-H TO MONITOR THE INDIVIDUAL AND THEIR CONTACTS. THERE ARE NO CONFIRMED CASES OF CORONAVIRUS IN OHIO AND THE STATE REMAINS AT A LOW RISK FOR THE DISEASE.

>>Racers Post Fifth Straight Home Win

(Lima, OH)--The University of Northwestern Ohio Racers have won five straight home games following a 69-66 win over Cornerstone. Nathan Lessing led UNOH with 20 points while Lima Senior grad Elijah Pughsley chipped in with 17. The Racers improved to 9-16 on the season, 5-10 in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference. They host Indiana Tech Saturday afternoon.

>>Beavers Win at MSJ

(Cincinnati, OH)--Bath product Andrew Renner posted a double-double to lead the Bluffton Beavers to a 66-53 win at Mount St. Joseph. Renner scored 19 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as the Beavers moved to 11-9 overall and 7-6 in the Heartland Conference. Bluffton will visit Anderson Saturday afternoon.

>>ONU Falls

(Berea, OH)--The Baldwin Wallace Yellow Jackets downed the Ohio Northern Polar Bears 80-67 in Ohio Athletic Conference action. Thomas Phillips (Kenton) led ONU with 15 points and 12 rebounds but the Polar Bears dropped to 6-14 overall and 2-11 in the OAC. ONU is at #16 Marietta Saturday afternoon.

>>Cavaliers Drop Fifth Straight In Road Loss To Oklahoma City

(Oklahoma City, OK) -- The Cleveland Cavaliers remain winless in the month of February thanks to a tough 109-103 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder. Seven Cleveland players scored in double-figures led by Collin Sexton, who had 23 and Larry Nance Junior's double-double with 14-points and ten rebounds. With the NBA trade deadline fast approaching, Kevin Love scored 20-points with seven rebounds in what may have been his final appearance in a Cavs uniform. Cleveland does not play again until Sunday when they host the L.A. Clippers.
