>>Bath Township Fire Department Responds to Ice Rescue
(Lima, OH)--The Bath Township Fire Department rescued a juvenile out on the ice in the middle of pond on the property of the Johnny Appleseed Park located at 1582 Slabtown Road yesterday morning just before 9 o’clock.
Deputies from the Allen County Sheriff’s Office arrived first and attempted to get the juvenile to return to the shore without success.
Then a Bath firefighter donned a cold water rescue suit and was tethered to the shore with a rope retrieval system. The firefighter made his way out to the boy who was about 50 yards from shore. The firefighter was able to talk to the juvenile and get him to agree to be assisted off of the ice without incident.
>>Chase Bank Branch Robbed
(Lima, OH)-- The Allen County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a bank robbery at the Chase branch at 1799 Harding Highway. The call came in about 10:39 A.M. The suspect is a white male wearing blue jeans, a neon yellow sweatshirt and sunglasses. He demanded money from the teller but it has not yet been confirmed if he brandished a gun. He then fled on foot. There were no injuries reported.
THERE ARE STILL FIVE CONFIRMED CASES OF CORONAVIRUS IN THE U-S, WITH THE CLOSEST TO OHIO BEING CHICAGO. BUT IT IS OF GROWING CONCERN IN OHIO. STATE HEALTH OFFICIALS ARE WAITING FOR TEST RESULTS FROM THE FIRST TWO POSSIBLE CASES HERE IN OHIO. BOTH ARE MIAMI UNIVERSITY STUDENTS WHO RECENTLY TRAVELED THROUGH CHINA. THE STUDENTS ARE NOT SEVERELY ILL AND ARE IN ISOLATION. TEST RESULTS ARE EXPECTED BY THE END OF THE WEEK. MIAMI POSTPONED ITS MEN’S BASKETBALL HOME GAME LAST NIGHT IN RESPONSE.

THE F-D-A TAKES SPECIFIC ISSUE WITH CLAIMS THAT PURELL MAY KILL THE EBOLA VIRUS, M-R-S-A AND OTHER GERMS. THE F-D-A DOESN'T SAY THESE CLAIMS ARE DEFINITELY UNTRUE. THE ISSUE IS THE AGENCY FORBIDS HAND SANITIZERS FROM CLAIMING THEY CAN PROTECT PEOPLE FROM GETTING SICK.

(Lincoln, NE) -- Michigan snapped a four-game losing streak with a 79-68 win at Nebraska last night. Lima Senior grad Xavier Simpson did not play for the Wolverines as he sat out a suspension for violating team rules. Eli Brooks led the Wolverines with 20 points, Franz Wagner added 18 points and Brandon Johns junior had 16 points. UM, 12-and-8 overall and 3-and-6 in the Big Ten, will play Rutgers at Madison Square Garden on Saturday.
>>Cavs Fall To Pelicans As Phenom Zion Williamson Makes NBA Road Debut
(Cleveland, OH) -- The Cleveland Cavaliers welcomed rookie Zion Williamson to town and watched as he led the Pelicans to a 125-111 victory at Rocket Mortgage Arena. Williamson played 29-minutes and scored 14-points with nine rebounds in just his fourth NBA game and first away from New Orleans. Collin Sexton led the Cavs with 24-points, and Kevin Porter Junior added in 21 in the loss. The Cavs will take tonight off before hosting the Toronto Raptors on Thursday.
>>Reds Slugger Has Surgery On Right Shoulder
(Cincinnati, OH) -- Cincinnati Reds third basemen Eugenio Suarez is expected to start Spring Training in a limited capacity after undergoing shoulder surgery. The team announced yesterday that Suarez had the surgery to remove loose cartilage in the shoulder and will begin rehabbing the injury in about five days. He reportedly suffered the injury during a swimming pool mishap at his Florida home recently. Last season with the Reds, Suarez was outstanding, hitting 271 with 49 home runs and 103 RBI. The club says he will be ready for the start of the regular season and will turn to offseason acquisition Mike Moustakas if Suarez is unable to go.
