>>Armed Cashier Scares Would-Be Robbers

(Lima, OH)--We have an update on a story we brought you yesterday morning concerning an armed robbery attempt at Hermie’s Party Shop on St. John’s Road just outside the city limits. The Allen County Sheriff’s Office says it happened Tuesday night at 8:10. Two males entered Hermie’s with pistols drawn. They demanded the cashier give them the money in the cash register. Both males were dressed in black Nike sweat suits and had their faces covered.One male ran up the aisle toward the cashier and lifted the white handkerchief covering his face. As he approached the cashier he saw that the cashier was armed. The two men then exited the building running northbound. Nothing was taken during the attempted robbery.

>>Lima Rapist Gets Life Sentence

(Lima, OH)--A Lima man was sentenced to life in prison yesterday for raping a 9-year old boy.

The Lima News say 22-year old Avery Ward was sentenced for raping a 9-year-old boy in 2018 in an apartment on Brower Road. Ward committed the assault while knowing he was infected with the HIV virus that causes AIDS.

>>Ft. Recovery Coaches Charged With Murder

(Jay County, IN)--Two Fort Recovery High School softball coaches are accused of conspiring to kill an Indiana man. The Dayton Daily News says the man had filed to have parenting time with a child he shared with one of the coaches.

Head coach, 31-year old Esther Stephen and 18-year old assistant coach Shelby Hiestand are each charged with one count of murder in the death of Shea Briar. They are expected in court today.

Early Sunday morning, Briar was found suffering from a gunshot wound in his back on a road in Jay County. In interviews with investigators, the pair of women “admitted that they had conspired together to murder Shea Briar,” according to an affidavit filed with the court in Jay County.

The school district has relieved both coaches of their duties until further notice and now are on administrative leave pending further investigation by law enforcement.

(Columbus, OH)-- Homeowners throughout Ohio now have the opportunity to apply to receive reimbursement for the purchase and construction of a tornado safe room inside or outside their homes.

The Ohio Emergency Management Agency is accepting applications for its Ohio Safe Room Rebate Program. A safe room is a structure specifically designed to provide near-absolute protection in extreme weather events. The Ohio EMA’s rebate program provides a rebate of up to 75 percent to homeowners selected for the program.

Safe rooms can be constructed/installed in one of several places in the home, including in the basement; beneath a concrete slab-on-grade foundation or garage floor; or in an interior room on the first floor. A safe room may also be buried in the yard or be a stand-alone structure near the home.

The deadline to apply to participate in the Ohio Safe Room Rebate Program is April 6.

(Richmond, IN)--Bluffton fell to 7-7 overall and 3-4 in the Heartland Conference, while Earlham improved to 6-8 overall and 2-5 in the HCAC.

Dezman Brown paced the Beavers with 20 points on a red-hot 8-of-10 shooting from the field, and he also dished out four assists on the night.

Bluffton will be back in action Saturday when they host Anderson.

(Lima, OH)--Behind 30 points from Nathan Lessing and 26 by Elijah Pughsley the University of Northwestern Ohio men's basketball team posted its third straight home win Wednesday night, defeating Aquinas 75-68 in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference action at The Garage.

UNOH (5-14, 2-8 WHAC) travels to Rochester on Saturday.
