>>Day Seven at the Allen County Fair

Today is Senior Citizen’s Day and Kewpee Day at the Allen County Fair. Seniors, 60 and over, get in free until 6 p.m. There’s an Antique Tractor Pull at 9:00 this morning in the grandstand infield and 1150 WIMA sponsors Harness Racing tonight at 7:00 in the grandstand with the Dunlap-Renner Memorial Pace being the highlight race. Also this afternoon is the first of two Junior Fair livestock auctions, featuring rabbits and chickens. That’s at 4:30 in the Show Arena and sponsored by T-102.

>>Funny Money in Ada

Ada Police yesterday executed a search warrant at 102 ½ N. Main Street in the village and arrested Deyond White. They recovered approximately $50,000 in counterfeit currency, along with items believed to have been purchased with the fake cash. White is facing charges of possessing counterfeit money, with the possibility of additional charges as the Secret Service has now joined the investigation.

Lima Chevrolet Cadillac, T&D Interiors and the Allentown Road Walmart have teamed up with VideoBranch and Precision Advertising to load up 200 backpacks to be given away beginning today and while supplies last.

The giveaway is limited to one per family and the child must be present. The backpacks are filled with school supplies to help start the school year fully stocked.

The backpacks can be picked up the Lima ChevroletCadillac at 2200 North Cable Road. The event is co-sponsored by 93.9 KISS-FM.

RESEARCHERS AT THE UNIVERSITY OF FINDLAY HAVE ANNOUNCED A POSSIBLE BREAKTHROUGH IN THE FIGHT AGAINST BRAIN CANCER. PHARMACY STUDENTS THERE FOUND A STRING OF CHEMICAL COMPOUNDS THAT KILLS CANCER CELLS WITHOUT HURTING HEALTHY CELLS.

IT HAS TO GO THROUGH ANIMAL STUDIES BEFORE IT CAN BE TESTED ON HUMANS, BUT IT IS A BIG BREAKTHROUGH IN TREATING A DISEASE WITH ONLY A 10 PERCENT SURVIVAL RATE.

>>Kalida Boil Water Notice

The Village of Kalida has issued a boil water advisory for residents on both sides of Walnut Street and north of Walnut Street. All water for drinking and cooking must be boiled for at least 10 minutes before consumption. Water used for bathing and laundry doesn’t need to be boiled. Customers will also noticed a reduction in water pressure.

>>Reds, Castillo Conquer Padres

(Cincinnati, OH) -- Luis Castillo allowed one run over six innings to log his 12th win as the Reds beat the Padres 4-2 at Great American Ball Park. Raisel Iglesias worked a spotless ninth, striking out two, to log his 26th save. Jose Iglesias hit a solo shot for Cincinnati, which wrapped up a 4-and-3 homestand. They will play their next 11 games on the road before returning home on September 2nd.

>>Indians Fall To Mets In 10 Innings

(Flushing, NY) -- Carlos Santana homered in the 10th inning, but the Indians gave up two in the bottom half to lose 4-3 to the Mets in New York. Brad Hand blew his fifth save and suffered the loss. J.D. Davis singled in the winning run for the Mets. The Tribe has lost six of its last eight games.

>>Westerman Returns; Bengals Home Tonight

(Cincinnati, OH) -- Offensive guard Christian Westerman returned to the Bengals. He was placed on exempt/left squad list Friday and had until yesterday to determine his NFL future. Head coach Zac Taylor said Westerman had been dealing with a personal issue, but gave no more details. The 1-and-1 Bengals will play their first home preseason game tonight against the Giants at Paul Brown Stadium. Cincinnati pass rusher Carl Lawson is expected to play for the first time since tearing his ACL last October.
