Helicopter Crash After Mexico Quake Leaves Thirteen Dead

A 7.2 magnitude earthquake has left millions more without power and dozens of buildings damaged in central and southern Mexico.

The quake centered about 90 miles off the Pacific coast in the southern state of Oaxaca, has produced more than 225 aftershocks since it struck late Friday afternoon. The mayor of Mexico City says an earthquake alarm in the city warned residents 72 seconds before the earthquake struck, giving people time to flee into the streets.

Thirteen people were killed after a military helicopter crashed when the pilot lost control while surveying damage. Two vans were crushed after the helicopter landed on them, while trying to land in a field. Twelve people, including five women, four men and three children, were killed at the scene. Another person later died at a local hospital Oaxaca officials said. Fifteen people were injured by the crash.

No deaths have been reported in the earthquake itself.
